Only 50,000 signatures needed to trigger referendum on Bradford Bill.

by Steve Baron

Over 250,000 signatures have been collected by Larry Baldock and his supporters to have a referendum on Sue Bradford's Anti Smacking Bill. The required number to trigger the referendum is approximately 300,000 which must be collected by 1st March. That's only 50,000 to go!

In signing this petition or collecting signatures you are not saying you are for or against the Bradford Bill, only that you want a referendum on this issue which by it's nature ought to be decided by the people rather than by politicians.

Better Democracy NZ is not saying we are for or against the Bradford Bill but we do believe it was an issue that could have and should have been put to the people of New Zealand as it was so controversial. By reaching the milestone of 300,000 signatures a referendum voted on by the public will keep adding to the momentum we collectively have gained in the last few years regarding direct democracy.
